Artist Statement

Creativity has always been a part of my life whether it’s singing, dancing, photography, or graphic design. It didn’t matter what medium I have used, throughout my life, I was able to take my ideas or feelings out of myself and place them into the world. One medium I have fallen in love with is graphic design. By using typography, photography, and illustration and basic design principles I am able to give form to my ideas. With my work I like to create things that are functional and clever.

My style is minimalistic, effective, and quirky. I think in terms of the big picture and then I break it apart into smaller elements. My creative process includes research, breaking things down, and trying to piece them together in a different way. When I’m trying to figure out how I can visually communicate my ideas, I do extensive amount of research. I look at magazines, books, and the internet; for inspiration and to see if it has been done before. With this research, I often discover new things to help enhance my ideas. I also always make sure to ask “Why?” or “Does this really work together?” to push the boundaries and to make sure the project is the best it can be.

My sketchbook is like my bible. I use my sketchbook to get all of my ideas and visions on to paper. After I put my vision on paper, I transfer them in to the computer to make the vision come to life. Right before I think my work is ready to be shown to the world, I try to show it to other graphic designers, teachers, or anyone who has an opinion. Their opinions help me consider other perspectives and strengthen my work. When my ideas are perfected, I show them to the world to see what people think and how I can inspire and be inspired by others.
