Artist Statement

In my artworks, I intend to put everything on the table in terms of what I want to say. I let my imagination run wild when thinking of ways to fulfill what I want to say in every piece of work I create even if it is for a client. As an Graphic Designer, I feel I am obligated to express my emotions through my works because like musicians, it is a form of venting for me. I feel this way because a Graphic Designer is an artist as well like a painter or drawer but he/she uses visual designs and programs to express what he is trying to say. I use my skills to accomplish expressing myself through designs and I hold a strict moral code to be true to myself no matter what another person thinks.

Using my designs, I try to send a message whether appropriate or otherwise to the viewer. I’m very fond of using photography, poetry, and even drawing to accomplish this because by infusing my graphic “know-how” with those skill I just mentioned, I can create art that is unusual and by combining pieces together, they create scenarios in your head until you out all the pieces together. For example, my “Angel in emotions” portrait and my “Real talk from a Misunderstood Mind” dialog has had people believe that I am showing myself yearning for the Angel by when the poem is read, you get a different outlook then the one you first had though you still get a sense of what I like.

I do this on purpose. I feel that if the viewer is not shocked, confused, or moved by my work then the work is flawed. This is because art is an expression of you, your culture, and your life lessons, moral values, and reflections so if the viewer doesn’t get that then that means you are not being real to yourself. I believe that art is only good when its “real” and heartfelt and not just something you want people to think about you. The opinions of others should not matter at all because people will always judge you no matter what but you can never change who you are.
