Artist Statement
As a Graphic Designer, my main goal is to create thought provoking designs that pursue the vision of the client while incorporating my aesthetic. I value collaboration, strategy, and educating myself on different artistic approaches. Collaboration is a crucial component in the design process. Constant communication with the client allows me to ensure I am always following their vision while remaining true to my aesthetic.
With collaboration comes strategy, I ask the client and myself: How do we want to appeal to the audience? What is the game changer? This is all part of immersing myself into the client’s world and developing as much information as possible before creating a series of preliminary sketches.
I fill my sketchbook with a multitude of thumbnails before starting to really focus on a solid idea. I try to follow the beliefs of British Designer, Alan Fletcher, who once said, “I like to reduce everything to its absolute essence because that is a way to avoid getting trapped in a style.” Throughout this process I am constantly educating myself so I don’t become stagnant. Inspiration comes from peers and countless design blogs, which is how I figure out what appeals to certain audiences. Ultimately, I aspire to produce work that answers a question about what it represents.
