Artist Statement

Ever since I was a child I have always admired comic books. The idea of these characters, more often than not superhuman, having the ability to help those around them fascinated me. I would spend hours attempting to draw these characters—trying to get them just right. It was always something about that style of art that lured me in; that thick contour line, the strong contrast of shadow to light, the various lettered words warping across the page, it was all so beautiful to me.

This style of comic art stuck with me all throughout my schooling and into the style that I developed in my own work. I suppose one could say that my admiration of these comic book characters exist in other areas of my life still in a sense since ultimately I would love to one day create pieces of artwork that address social issues here and now—issues that need to be addressed. If done in the right manner, art can be a very effective way of attracting the attention of many people and raising awareness.

I believe my work can become part of that awareness. I am an artist, an illustrator, and a graphic designer. I am full of knowledge in all of these areas, my skills are not just limited to one. From these multiple skills, I am given the ability to take on whatever task is presented to me on with a variety of creative approaches to accomplish an entirely unique outcome to my art.
