Artist Statement

My aesthetic is a consolidation of many styles of art and design that I have studied in school and discovered though the nature of my life. I have focused my studies in Graphic Design, but chose not to narrow myself as a specialty artist. I consider myself a ‘creative artist’ because I have no boundaries or limits to the medium and or content of my work. The art I create is practical, beneficial, and stimulating. These three attributes cannot always be achieved by one medium or idea, so this is why I prefer to be recognized as creative.

Although you may find depth in me as a person, my work overall reflects my practical side. I create work that is purposeful and beneficial. I don’t ask the viewer to decipher hidden meanings and I don’t create art that is overcomplicated. You could say my art does a job for someone, especially my professional client work. The graphic design work I create is clean, simple, and professional. I have the skills to find a problem and quickly create the best solution to satisfy my client.

I also enjoy creating fine art for my own personal satisfaction or to stimulate a viewer in a way of my choosing. The fine art I create is a direct reflection of my life including the style and themes, which are derived from the outdoors and my dreams. I typically choose to arouse the viewer in terms of feelings, mood, or beliefs, but my overall goal is to stimulate them in a positive and inspirational way.

It may not be obvious, but both my graphic design and fine art work have developed from a design style that mimics my life and my passions. These ideas derive from the world around me and you, which may include current topics, fashion, lifestyles, the outdoors, and my own personal experiences, decisions, and dreams. For instance, I once created a package design for a hot sauce that was inspired by a surf artist and the designs he painted on to surfboards. I was able to use my infatuation with this style of art, and incorporate it into a design that needed to be clean and professional.

My life, my choices, and my style of art and design do not relate to everybody; but if I can connect my style to one person, one lifestyle, or one feeling, I have succeeded. My goal is for my client or the viewer to find a piece of me in the work I have created, while still offering a practical benefit and a solution to their problem.
